Ruby Zaman

Multimedia Journalist

Ruby Zaman is an international multimedia journalist with more than 15 years of experience in news and current affairs.

She is currently working as a freelance producer on a globally top-rated podcast alongside a high-profile host and has also taken work with BBC Sounds/BBC World Service and TRT WORLD.

This follows her role as a producer for ‘The Take’ – Al Jazeera Media Network’s Washington-based multi-award-winning, news and current affairs show, covering stories including the Bollywood film industry, climate change in the Himalayas and artificial intelligence.

Her career began in 2006 as part of the launch team for Al Jazeera English in Doha, Qatar where she cut her teeth in journalism in one of the most diverse newsrooms in the world, and under the guidance of talented world-class journalists. During her time she contributed to award-winning coverage.

Ruby has a profound interest in human stories, those that give a voice to marginalised communities around the world and ultimately have a positive impact on humanity.

She has been invited to share her journalism experience as a guest speaker for events held by SOAS, University of London and EY.

Alongside her involvement in the Asian Media Awards, Ruby was on the judging panel for the British Podcast Awards.

More recently, she has returned to academia part-time to earn a second Master’s degree, from the University of Sussex in Media (digital), Ethics and Social Change and is working on her own soon-to-be-released podcast.
