The journey of a one-man team who set about creating one of the most popular sports channels on the planet was recognised at the Asian Media Awards.
Journalists and filmmakers joined content creators and actors at the 13th ceremony in Manchester.
The awards celebrate achievements in a range of categories in journalism, investigations, TV, radio, stage, online and creative media.
The event is supported by the University of Salford and took place at The Manchester Deansgate Hotel on Friday (October 31).
Boxing King Media was named 2025 Best Video Channel.
In just a few years, Boxing King Media has grown into the largest boxing video channel in the world. It has over 1 million subscribers on YouTube, a monthly reach of over 30 million viewers across all platforms, and has garnered more than half a billion views in the last 12 months alone
The man behind the channel, Gul Yaqoob who runs the channel with his team, remains distinctly modest of the achievements.
The channel has competed against some of the more established forms of media which have bigger budgets and corporate backing.
Every interview, every documentary-style feature, every edit, and every published video is the result of countless hours of dedication from behind the camera.
The content focusses on the athletes, their journeys, struggles, faith, families, and dreams. The shows have featured some of the most recognisable names in the sport including, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk and has also played a key role in giving exposure to rising talents in the sport such as Hamzah Sheeraz and Adam Azim.
Boxing King Media has aimed to take followers behind the scenes
appealing to both boxing fans and casual viewers who may connect with the human stories behind the sport.
The channel has continued to highlight stories of Asian excellence in boxing and shared cultural moments that resonate with communities often underrepresented in mainstream sports coverage.
From showing world champions offering prayers after career-defining wins to documenting fighters celebrating their roots through music and family traditions, the content celebrates among other things identity, culture, and community pride.
Gul and his team’s ultimate goal is to make Boxing King Media not just the biggest boxing channel, but one of the most influential sports media platforms in the world.
