Asian Media Awards finalists unveiled at The Film and TV Charity

The finalists of this year’s Asian Media Awards were revealed at a special event at The Film and TV Charity.

Now in their 14th year the Asian Media Awards celebrate achievements in a range of categories in journalism, investigations, TV, radio, stage, online and creative media.

The annual finalists gathering hears from panel members and also past winners.

AMA Panel member and journalist Shamim Chowdhury hosted the event sharing insights into the 2026 list. There was a special mention for the young journalists and presenters who are featured in the shortlist.

The audience were also the first to hear about a new ‘Pioneers in Music’ award which will honour a band who helped to redefine what it meant to be Asian in Britain.

Guests were welcomed by Chairman of the Film and TV Charity Marcus Ryder who spoke about the charity remains dedicated to helping those working behind the scenes in the UK’s film, TV, and cinema industry overcome both personal and professional challenges.

The Film and TV Support Line, is a free, 24-hour confidential helpline and provides access to vital services like counselling, legal, and financial advice for everyone in the industry.

Guests were also invited to use the venue which is available for everyone.

Sanjay Shabi a long-standing AMA Panel members spoke about how the awards had helped to inspire a range of media professionals at all levels since they were first held in 2013

Fresh off another 10k run, journalist Minreet Kaur spoke why she was inspired to tell the untold stories within communities. Minreet won the Report of the Year honour during Covid for her report the ‘Skipping Sikh’.

The Asian Media Awards itself will take place in Manchester on Friday October 30.  The ceremony will feature six special awards.

The finalist’s celebration in the past has been held at BBC Broadcasting House, the offices of Essence MediaCom and ITV Studios.
