Celebrating Diversity In Media

Press Association Training will be partners for the Asian Media Awards and will also help judge the categories.

Speaking at the official launch held at MediaCityUK, Tony Johnston, Head of Press Association who is part of the judging panel said, “On a personal level the diversity of the intake of journalism in the UK interests me.

“I was first exposed to it in 2002 when I was part of the group that put a piece of research together called ‘Journalists at work’.

“It came back with real shocking statistics about the level of diversity in newsrooms across the country.

“The study was repeated last year. Unfortunately the research showed in terms of numbers that very little had changed.

“There are some worthy exceptions and there are some good projects that are in place.

“I really look forward to working with the judging panel to determine the winners and then joining you for the main event.”

Umbreen Ali, said “It remains crucially important to have trained journalists at all levels within the media industry.

“There is still very much a shortage of trained Asian journalists working within the mainstream media.

“It is hoped that this event will help to highlight the talent within the Asian media industry and also hold up as role models those professionals working within the mainstream media.”
