Kavita Kukar Is Rising Star In Radio Winner

Panda Radio’s Kavita Kukar was the 2018 Asian Media Awards Rising Star in Radio Award winner.

The Asian Media Awards ceremony took place at the Manchester Hilton Deansgate (Thursday October 25) attracting journalists, broadcasters and media professionals from across the country.

The evening also saw BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty, East is East and Ackley Bridge creator Ayub Khan Din and Sky News Political Editor, Faisal Islam honoured.

Kavita was presented the award by Director at event partners MediaCom, Sanjay Shabi.

Speaking on stage Kavita said, “I would like to thank everyone at Panda Radio. My team are absolutely incredible and they have supported me for the last year and a half.

“I would also like to thank Ray and Sbba from Asian Star because they gave me my very first break. The sky is the limit – chase your dreams you can do it.”

Kavita Kukar presents The Day Show on the brand new Panda Radio, where she doubled the listenership within the first three months.

Her inimitable manner sees her approach various topics with empathy and charisma.

As well as presenting, Kavita produces her show. She recently set up a partnership with The Hard Rock Cafe and organised a competition to give away tickets to The Isle Of Wight.

Last year Kavita covered The Costa Book Awards and invited all the finalists onto The Day Show.

She also has music-based features such as the ‘Indie Fifteen’ and features many guests on the show from Alexandra Burke, Frankie Bridge and The Wanted to Feeder and The Holloways.


Winners and recipients of AMA special awards were announced at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday 25 October.

Previous recipients of an Asian Media Award include Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Waris Hussein, Art Malik, Mehdi Hasan, Nina Wadia and Anita Rani.

The University of Salford are premier sponsors and partners to the event include ITV, MediaCom, M.E.N, Press Association Training, Primesight & The Palace Theatre & Opera House.

The official Charity Partner for 2018 is CLIC Sargent.
