‘Helping Children in Crisis’ Wins Report of the Year 2022

ITV Border journalist Andrew Misra collected the Report of the Year award for his investigation into how Covid had affected young children.

The 2022 awards celebrated the achievements of journalists, broadcasters and leading creative industry professionals on Friday October 28 in Manchester.

Months of work culminated in almost the whole edition of Look around, ITV Border’s nightly news programme, being dedicated to this report.

Andrew speaks to a mother in Cumbria who tells of the struggle she had faced to get suitable mental health support for her daughter, even after she had tried to take her own life on numerous occasions. He also secured exclusive access to a school taking the rare approach of employing a dedicated mental health nurse for its pupils.

The investigation was singled out for praise by leading charities PAPYRUS and Every Life Matters, which work to prevent suicide among young people, for its scope and detail.

Andrew said: “It took a long time, four months to gather everything.

“It started off with one case study and mother who contacted us. It was quite comprehensive.”

He added: “I would say work really hard and think about where you want to be. I wouldn’t be put off by those who say it is really competitive.

“To actually win in front some of those people who I watch on national and regional news and who been around a lot longer than I have was nice.”

The Report of the Year award was presented by Lynda Moyo Head of What’s On & Emerging Content at Reach Plc and from Kate Rosindale from Blog Preston.

The ceremony hosted by Sky Sports News presenter Bela Shah saw special awards for LBC News host Lisa Aziz, BBC 5Live broadcaster Nihal Arthanayake and acclaimed TV and stage actor Kulvinder Ghir of Goodness Gracious Me fame.
