Nabhaan Rizwan is AMA Best Newcomer 2019

Nabhaan Rizwan who was first seen by viewers in the thrilling six-part drama ‘Informer’ was named AMA Best Newcomer 2019.

The seventh University of Salford Asian Media Awards ceremony (October 24) at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate was attended by journalists, bloggers and media professionals from across the UK. The 2019 event was hosted by Dani Sinha of Channel 5 news.

‘Informer’ followed Raza Shar, a British-Pakistani man from East London and his unexpected encounter with Gabe Waters and Holly Morten who work as counterterrorism officers.

Despite his protestations and fear of being used by the secret services he reluctantly agrees to assist them.

The drama proved to be a surprise success for the year even more so after the standout performance of Nabhaan, who’s captivating performance led him to be named one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow as well as earning him the RTS Breakthrough Award.

Nabhaan said, “It has a been an incredible year and a huge thank you to the Asian Media Awards for this honour.

“Breaking into this industry is not easy and I hope this inspires young people of what can be achieved by perseverance and determination.”

Nabhaan comes from a family of actors and his mum Shahnaz starred in the hit Star Plus series ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ (This Is Love).

His father previously worked as a playwright and his brother, Mawaan, is a comic, writer and radio presenter with his own show on BBC Asian Network, Mawaan and Emily.

Nabhaan will next be seen in the new Jack Thorne TV series The Accident for Channel 4 and Hulu, in the Sam Mendes’ First World War feature ‘1917’ and as Hari in Industry for HBO.

This year’s Asian Media Awards took place the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday October 24 2019.

The University of Salford were premier sponsors and partners to the event included ITV, MediaCom, M.E.N, & Press Association Training.
