Star Plus Reclaims TV Channel of the Year Honour

Star Plus reclaimed the TV channel of the year award at the annual Asian Media Awards. The TV Channel of the Year category was supported by Woman’s Trust.

The seventh Asian Media Awards ceremony (October 24) at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate was attended by journalists, bloggers and media professionals from across the UK. The 2019 event was hosted by Dani Sinha of Channel 5 news.

The award was presented by Colonel Rus Miller OBE from the Army.

Speaking on stage, “Thank you to the AMA’s and thank you to the audiences.

“Star is in the business of telling stories and in that there is a lot of hard work that goes on behind the scenes and in front of the camera.

“This is for everyone who makes that happen and for making stories worth falling in love with.”

Star Plus continues to be the most watched Asian entertainment channel in the UK with weekly viewership topping 1 million.

Although it has received stronger competition in recent years from Hum TV Europe, Sony, Colors and ZEE TV.

Star Plus’ programming consists predominantly of family dramas, telefilms and celebrity chat shows. Popular shows include Nach Baliye, Namah, Sanjivani and more.

The majority of the channel’s content is subtitled in English.

Star Plus launched their HD channel in 2012. Star Plus also sponsor events such as the Leicester Mela and the World Food Awards in London as well as supporting Asian groups within universities.


This year’s Asian Media Awards took place the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday October 24 2019.

The University of Salford were premier sponsors and partners to the event included ITV, MediaCom, M.E.N, & Press Association Training.

The official Charity Partners for 2019 were Mosac & Woman’s Trust.

The event was also supported by Manchester Metropolitan University, Routes Into Languages North West, AMT Lawyers, DKR Accountants, 6G Internet, Hilton Manchester Deansgate, Supreme Dream Events, Payal Events & Cleartwo.
