Sunrise Radio Celebrate 30 Years with Win at AMA’s

Sunrise Radio was named Radio Station of the Year at the 2019 Asian Media Awards. The Radio Station of the Year category was supported by Supreme Dream Events.

The seventh Asian Media Awards ceremony (October 24) at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate was attended by journalists, bloggers and media professionals from across the UK.  The 2019 event was hosted by Dani Sinha of Channel 5 news.

It was their third victory in four years.

Accepting the award Programme Manager, Paul Shah said, “I am so proud of once again to be accepting this fantastic award for Sunrise Radio for Radio Station of the Year for 2019.”

“I just want to echo what Bobby Friction said, as an industry as radio stations as TV stations we all up our game. We push ourselves to be better and ultimately the audience always benefits.

“Big big thank you to Asian Media Awards. A big thank you to all our listeners, all our staff. I am proud we are in London and we are national on DAB and I am proud we are entering into our 30th year.”

The radio station was initially launched to west London’s Asian community on the 5th of November 1989 and quickly became an integral part of the community.

Much to the delight of British Asians in 1993, Sunrise won a licence to broadcast to Greater London and the Home Counties, delivering the best of Bollywood hits and Punjabi Desi Beats to its loyal audience and giving Asian talent a platform from which to launch their careers.

Sunrise has supported charities including Race Against Blood Cancer, Childreach International, the British Asian Trust and Cancer Research UK. Earlier this year, Cancer Research UK presented Sunrise Radio with the Flame of Hope Award for Media Supporter of the Year.

This year’s Asian Media Awards took place the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday October 24 2019.

The University of Salford were premier sponsors and partners to the event included ITV, MediaCom, M.E.N, & Press Association Training.

The official Charity Partners for 2019 were Mosac & Woman’s Trust.

The event was also supported by Manchester Metropolitan University, Routes Into Languages North West, AMT Lawyers, DKR Accountants, 6G Internet, Hilton Manchester Deansgate, Supreme Dream Events, Payal Events & Cleartwo.
